LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Daffy Duck has a new claim to fame: He was the “Godfather of Break Dancing.”

That’s according to break dancing historian Thomas Guzman-Sanchez, who says Daffy helped develop two of the most popular break dancing styles: “popping” and “locking.”

Guzman-Sanchez claims Daffy’s daffy movements influenced the very first break dance group: a Fresno-based troupe called the Electronic Boogaloo Lockers, who invented most of the basic break moves in 1973 after watching Looney Toons cartoons for years.

Other major “Godfathers of Break Dancing” include the famous mime duo of Shields and Yarnell, who invented movements that later became a dance called “The Robot,” and the Slinky spring toy which inspired dances like the “Moonwalk.”

Guzman-Sanchez discusses the history of popping, locking and other break dancing basics in an upcoming documentary called Underground Dance Masters: History Of A Forgotten Era, which will hit theaters later this summer. A two-volume soundtrack album from the film is in stores now.
