ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Americans deserve a “D-plus” in American history if a new survey is correct.

According to a poll conducted by Maritz AmeriPoll, only 70 percent of Americans know there are 50 stars on the flag. 10 percent think there’s 52.

  • Only 62 percent of Americans know the national anthem is “The Star Spangled Banner.”

  • 6 percent think it’s “God Bless America” and 3 percent think its “America, the Beautiful.”

  • 23 percent have no idea what name of America’s anthem is.

  • 40 percent don’t know the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776.

  • And, finally, 12 percent think the first president was either Abe Lincoln or Benjamin Franklin – not George Washington.
