42 PERCENT OF AMERICANS DON’T KNOW IDAHO POTATOES HAVE TO BE GROWN IN IDAHO

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Remember when former vice president Dan Quayle couldn’t spell the word “potato?” Here’s even more depressing news: nearly half of all Americans don’t even know that Idaho potatoes have to be grown in Idaho.

A new survey by the Idaho Potato Commission reveals that 39 percent of Americans think Idaho potatoes can be grown anywhere on the planet, while 3 percent don’t know or just don’t care.

Americans may be “spud duds” when it comes where potatoes come from, but they do know how to eat them.

  • 47 percent prefer their potatoes baked.

  • 23 percent like them mashed.

  • 16 percent say they like eating fried potatoes the most.
