STOCKTON, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Listening to an opera while driving your car can be deadly.

A new study by England’s Royal Automobile Club warns that listening to certain operatic music – like Wagner’s “The Ride of the Valkyries” – can churn up a driver’s temper and lead to high-speed accidents.

California-based music therapy professor Audree O’Connell says the British findings are right on the mark, and drivers would be smart to steer clear of anyone blasting “The Ride of the Valkyries” in their cars.

O’Connell says that’s because the rhythm is faster than the typical human pulse and fast-paced rhythms can trigger road rage. She says any music which has more than 60 beats per minute can increase your heart rate and make you feel more agitated.

Instead of listening to intense Wagner operas while driving, O’Connell recommends listen to calming music like Enya or “The Blue Danube Waltz.”
