PHOENIX, Ariz. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Monday (Jun. 22) marks the 29th anniversary of the day Judy Garland died from an overdose of sleeping pills at the age of 47.

One person remembering Garland is 74-year-old former Munchkin Margaret Pellegrini, who appeared in the Wizard Of Oz as one of the “Sleepyheads.”

Pellegrini remembers Judy as a happy child who was always nice to the “little people” who played the Munchkins. Some of the scenes in Munchkinland took eight weeks to film and Judy would cheer up the weary Munchkins by handing out candy in between scenes.

Although there are rumors that some of the male Munchkins liked to pinch Judy’s bottom, Pellegrini says the rumor have been “blown out of proportion.”

She says most of the actors who played Munchkins were well- behaved teenagers not much older than Garland – but she says some of the older munchkins did “like their liquor.”

In honor of Judy Garland, her hometown of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, will be hosting the 23rd Annual Judy Garland Festival starting Thursday (Jun. 25), and Pellegrini will be greeting Garland fans there.
