PHILADELPHIA (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Authorities claim fashion designer Gianni Versace was murdered by gay hustler Andrew Cunanan, but an upcoming book claims it may have been the Mafia.

According to Gianni Versace: Fashion’s Last Emperor (Trans-Atlantic Publishing), some onlookers say they saw a dead sparrow next to Versace’s corpse – which is a Mafia trademark.

Others believe the Mob may have wanted Versace bumped off because he refused to go into business with them.

A private detective named Frank Monte also claims the Mafia used Cunanan as a patsy by killing him before Versace was hit and then storing his body in a freezer until he could be framed with Versace’s murder.

Gianni Versace: Fashion’s Last Emperor will hit stores on March 23.
