SAN ANTONIO, Tex. (Wireless Flash) A disc jockey in San Antonio, Texas, has found a butter way to make a living: hes the new voice for Parkay margarines talking margarine tub.
Sonny Melendrez, the morning DJ at KSMG-FM, was recently awarded the coveted honor over 40,000 other applicants. He will now get paid to say Parkay and butter in both English and Spanish.
This isnt the first time the voice of Melendrez has been heard on TV. Previously, he was the voice of Fred the cockatoo on the 1970s TV series Baretta and he was a cockroach for a Raid insect repellent ad.
Melendrez predicts the new Parkay margarine job will become his real cash cow. He may be right, because a survey conducted by Parkay shows that 90 percent of Americans associate the talking margarine tub with Parkay even though the ad campaign hasnt aired since 1985.
